At Little Stars I have made a clear decision to steer away from traditional styles of Obedience training. I came up through traditional clubs based on competition obedience, and although I'm grateful for the learning and the experiences, the methods and skills do not relate to real world scenarios. There is a place for it when done properly, but if you find yourself in class walking in endless circles with a treat on your dogs nose or you are setting up for convoluted recalls, believe me, your dog is as bored as you are!
What do I mean by convoluted recalls? sit, wait, walk away, turn and face, recall, sit straight, lead goes back on dog gets 1 piece of cheese, not only is this dull and joyless but it's never going to match up to the thrill of a squirrel chase.
This is where I come in. In my classes I employ a games based method. Your dogs (and you!) are learning through play. Your skills will grow and develop each week without force, fear nor boredom. Want that turn on a 6 pence recall? I'll give you homework to take out and work through to help you get it.
When I wrote my 6 week puppy course I leant on my behaviourist qualifications to create a series of exercises designed to head off potential behaviour problems before they appear. There is plenty of time in each class for questions and I am available to you for the duration of the course, I am happy and able to provide support to you afterwards and you will have lifetime access to a supportive and lively Facebook group.
Throughout my classes I draw on the benefits of Canine Conditioning, Trick Training, Play, Scent work and Nutrition but most of all you and your dogs will have a hoot while you learn together and create a life long bond.
